TVHS Bulldogs stumble at end
LOST CREEK — Caleb Riggleman was the game’s top scorer with 32 points Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to help Tygarts Valley earn a victory over South Harrison in boys varsity basketball action.
The Hawks defeated the Bulldogs, 63-57.
“We played really well,” TVHS coach Tom Wamsley said. “It was a back-and-forth game the whole time. Nobody ran out more than a six- or eight-point lead, either way.
“We held the ball with a little bit over three minutes to go with the score tied at 57,” he said. “We got a great shot, but it rolled off the rim. They came down and scored and we were playing from behind then on. We had to foul and that’s how it went out.
“It’s one of those things, if you’re coming off a few wins then that shot goes in. Because we’re struggling, we’re shooting and hoping a little bit.”
Riggleman set the tone with his 32 points for the Bulldogs. Zac McCauley, 8 points, and Hunter Davis, 7 points, also played well for TVHS.
The Bulldogs got out to an early lead, taking a 34-33 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
After South Harrison took a 15-11 scoring advantage in the third quarter, the game was tied up late in the fourth quarter at 57-57.
A missed opportunity put TVHS behind and the Bulldogs couldn’t catch back up.
The Bulldogs (2-4) are set to travel to Pocahontas County on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
