Bulldogs’ season ends with loss in sectionals

LOST CREEK — Tygarts Valley let the lead slip away in the fourth quarter Friday, as the Bulldogs fell to South Harrison, 59-56, in the first round of the Class A Region II Section 1 Tournament.

“That’s the way the season went,” TVHS coach Tom Wamsley said. “We just didn’t hit the plays in clutch time. We couldn’t make them and they did. That’s basketball, if you don’t make plays in the clutch then you’re going to get beat. That’s what happened.”

Three Bulldogs reached double digits in scoring. Caleb Riggleman set the pace with 15 points, while Rece Wamsley added 11 points and Zac McCauley chipped in 10 points. Jake Tackett also found his way into the scorebook with 8 points.

Cam Barnette was the game’s top scorer with 30 points for the Hawks.

Nick Fenstermacher also played well, contributing 21 points to the effort.

TVHS jumped out to a quick lead, taking a 32-25 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Bulldogs remained on top in the third quarter, taking the stanza 16-14. However, South Harrison stormed back in the fourth. outscoring the Bulldogs 20-8 to snatch the victory.

“I couldn’t ask to have a better bunch of kids,” Wamsley said. “The kids are all respectful, hard-working kids. I hate to see their season end this way, but you feel good with the fact that, with the type of kids they are, they’re going to be successful on down the road.”

The Bulldogs end the season with 8 wins and 15 losses.
