’Cats bow to Trinity, 68-60

MORGANTOWN — Four Pendleton County players reached double digits in scoring Monday, but it wasn’t enough to push the Wildcats past Trinity Christian School in non-conference basketball action.

The Warriors downed PCHS, 68-60.

“We didn’t play very well,” PCHS coach Ryan Lambert said. “We were pretty sluggish.

“Defensively, I was not very pleased with our rotations,” he said. “We did not shoot the ball very well.

“We just weren’t in sync on offense the whole night and defensively, we just didn’t have any energy,” he said.

“I have to give them credit, too. They made seven three-pointers and caused a lot of matchup problems for us,” Lambert said.

“I was proud of the boys. They didn’t go away. It could have easily gotten away, but my kids continued to fight. I liked that.”

Trey Cooper set the pace for the Wildcats with 18 points. Luke Cooper added 13 points, while Timmy Thorne chipped in 12 points and Tyler Day added 11 points.

Trinity’s Joe Zini was the game’s top scorer with 19 points. Teammate Caleb Jenkins contributed 16 points, while Joel Robertson scored 12 points and Kellen Alderman finished with 10 points.

The Warriors held a slight advantage at halftime, 39-33.

Trinity came out of the locker room firing up a 20-12 third quarter, but gave up a 15-9 fourth quarter. However, the early lead was enough to take the victory.

The Pendleton County Wildcats (16-4, 7-1 PVC) are scheduled to travel to Union High School on Wednesday.

The varsity only contest is set to tip off at 7 p.m. Wednesday
