Colts set new season-win mark

PBHS boys beat Berkeley Springs

BERKELEY SPRINGS — Philip Barbour peppered the north central Big 10 Conference region with 3 wins last week, and finished their stride in the Eastern Panhandle with an 81-50 victory over sectional opponent Berkeley Springs during the last leg of a 4-straight games slate.

The road win in Morgan County advanced the Colts’ current win streak to 11, and it broke the all-time PBHS single-season mark for total wins as the current team’s record is now 18-3. All together, the Class AA No. 6 Philip Barbour squad picked up wins in four different counties last week by going 4-0 (Tuesday through Friday), while hosting only one of those contests (vs. Grafton).

Hosting Berkeley Springs fell under attack early, trailing PBHS 21-8 after the first 8 minutes of quartered off time for regulation matters. A second period 24-11 win by the visitors pushed the Philip Barbour lead out to 45-19 at the half. The Colts used reserves, and limited starting roster minutes throughout the second half with a 69-32 advantage in tow to start the fourth.

David Shriver dialed up the net from behind the arc to make 8 of 13 shots attempted from 3-point range. Assistant coach Rick Mouser said Shriver didn’t shoot from anywhere else, and had a game-high 24 points to go along with 5 assists.

Austin Upton dropped 16 into the scoring column. Juniors Noah Price and Cole Whited collected 9 points a piece. Whited added 10 boards and 3 assists, while Price nabbed 3 steals and 3 passes for points on the evening.

Spencer Hudkins contributed 8 points and dished out 3 assists. Logan Stuart and Trent Tallman also put in good minutes for PB with 5 and 4 points, respectively.

Philip Barbour will close out the regular season on Tuesday when hosting Big Ten Conference opponent Lincoln High School (9-12) at 7:30 p.m.
