PHILIPPI — Junior three-point specialist David Shriver led all scorers with 27 points Tuesday to help Philip Barbour fend off Lincoln High School by a final count of 82-69.

Shriver ripped the net in the first half for 18 points from behind the arc to help the Class AA No. 5 Colts to a 10-point advantage of 46-36 at intermission.

The visiting LHS Cougars earned a 25-18 victory in the third quarter to only trail 64-61 when the fourth quarter got underway. PBHS clamped down in the fourth with an 18-8 decision to claim the win on Senior Night at the Colts’ Corral.

“You’d like to have a blow-out win, but games like this help you overall,” PB coach Marcus Johnson said. “It was another example of our team finding a way to win. Lincoln was throwing everything defensively they could in the first half.

“We beat their scheme early on, but they did take a one-point lead at a time in the second half. We told the team that somewhere along the way, you’re going to have to find yourselves and defend,” he said.

Philip Barbour took a 24-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, and led 46-36 at intermission. Lincoln climbed closer with a third-quarter victory to only trail 64-61 when the fourth quarter ensued.

“We got some stops and put together what we had to do,” Johnson said. “Everything happens for a reason. We could have folded tonight, but we finished strong. The starters got the rally going, and Levi (MacAdam) came in and to make a couple big foul shots.”

Seniors Spencer Hudkins and Austin Upton combined for 18 points in the scoring column. Upton handed out 8 assists and grabbed 6 boards, while Hudkins dished out 5 assists.

Juniors Noah Price and Cole Whited recorded 12 and 11 points respectively. Price added 4 rebounds and 3 steals, while Whited collected 9 boards in the paint.

Tuesday’s regular season finale victory took Philip Barbour’s win streak to 12 contests in a row, while improving their record to 19-3.

As a No. 1 seed in their section, PB will be idle on Monday before hosting a semi-final at 7 p.m. March 1
