Lady Tigers fall to conference rival Bridgeport
ELKINS — Taylor Maynard and Lauren Silvester both reached double digits in scoring Friday, but it wasn’t enough to lift Elkins past Big 10 Conference rival Bridgeport.
The Indians downed EHS, 49-37, in girls varsity basketball action.
“We competed against a very good Bridgeport team,” EHS coach Matt Davis said. “It seems the first quarter has been an issue for us in getting started. However, the kids’ effort was excellent and we competed.”
Maynard was the top scorer for EHS with 11 points. Silvester chipped in 10 points, while Taylor Phillips and Sierra Poling added 6 points each and Susan Riggleman and Brooke Pomp rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.
Pomp also recorded 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks and a steal.
Bridgeport senior Katherine Stalnaker was the game’s leader scorer with 20 points. Gianina Renzelli chipped in 11 points for the Indians.
Bridgeport got out to a quick start, taking a 13-5 lead after the first quarter. Both teams played to an 11-11 tie in the second period, with BHS garnering a 24-16 advantage at halftime.
The Indians edged Elkins 11-9 in the third period and 14-12 in the fourth to close out the game and earn the victory.
Elkins (4-18) returns to action on Monday to host Liberty in the first round of sectional action.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday
