Tucker advances to semi-final

Tucker County senior Ethan Crosten puts up a shot between two Harman defenders Monday night. The Mountain Lions defeated the Panthers 78-24 in the sectional contest.

HAMBLETON — Tucker County jumped ahead 39-19 at the half on Monday before going on to defeat Harman High School 78-24 in an opening round Class A Region II Section 2 contest.

“We played a lot better in the second half, and we got some good minutes for several kids on the team,” TCHS coach Dave Helmick said.

Tucker led 17-8 to start the second quarter, and limited the visiting Panthers to just 2 points in the third, and 3 more in the final frame while pulling starters off the floor altogether before the final eight minutes ensued.

Tucker’s Ethan Crosten led all scorers with 19 points, and handed out 5 assists to go along with 4 steals.

Josh Kincaid registered a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards, while Kordell Fulton put 11 in the scoring column next to his 9 rebounds.

Wesley Snyder garnered 10 on the score sheet and dished out 3 passes for points. Jakob Cousin chipped in with 8 rebounds for the hosts.

Harman also had a player in double figures as senior guard Clifton Ours inked 10 points for the Panthers. Kidman Arbogast, also a senior, represented HHS with 7 points in the basket.

The Mountain Lions (14-9) will host a 12-11 East Hardy team at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

On the season, Tucker County has defeated the Potomac Valley Conference foe Cougars twice. Due to weather cancellations, those contests were played back-to-back on Tucker’s schedule.

Tucker County bested EHHS 69-65 while hosting the Cougars Jan. 25. In Baker, the Mountain Lions once again found victory by a final count of 77-67 on Jan. 31.

“We played a lot better over there (at East Hardy),” Tucker coach Dave Helmick said. “They kind of caught us by surprise in the first meeting. They are a very physical and capable team. It’s survive and advance time. I hope our guys understand that.”

Tip time for Tucker County hosting East Hardy is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday.
