Tucker County drops Warriors

Ethan Crosten surpasses 1,000 career points at TCHS

HAMBLETON — Tucker County High School senior guard Ethan Crosten led all scorers with 35 points Saturday to help the Mountain Lions defeat Potomac Valley Conference foe Pocahontas County, 77-60, on the mountain.

Needing only 23 more when entering the contest, Crosten went on to become the 12th player in TCHS history to reach 1,000 career points.

“Ethan had a real good game for us, and reached the 1,000-points mark before halftime,” Tucker County coach Dave Helmick said. “He also had 7 steals. We ended up pulling him with the lead we had. Who knows, he may have been able to break a single-game scoring mark, but we weren’t thinking like that as players and coaches.”

The hosts manufactured an 18-13 lead to begin the second quarter, and then put up a 28-17 margin in order to lead 46-30 at intermission. A 17-13 winning of the third period put the Mountain Lions out in front by 20 to start the final frame.

Other seniors making good marks for Tucker included double-double outputs by Josh Kincaid and Kordell Fulton. Kincaid recorded 15 points and 12 boards, while Fulton garnered 13 in the scoring column to go along with 16 rebounds. Jakob Cousin, a senior, chipped in with 9 rebounds.

Pocahontas was paced by the junior class tandem of Briar Wilfong and Logan Dilley with 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Warriors.

Pocahontas slipped to 11-11 (3-4 PVC), and will be at Class A No. 2 Fayettville (20-0) on Wednesday to take on the hosting Pirates.

Tucker County is now 13-8, while being the only one loss team in the Class A side of the PVC at 6-1.

The Mountain Lions are slated to wrap up the regular season on Wednesday when they host Trinity Christian (9-11) at 7:30 p.m.
