D&E set for G-MAC title match
CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The Davis & Elkins College Women’s Tennis team earned a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship match by cruising past Kentucky Wesleyan with a 5-0 victory at the Johnson-Murdoch Complex Friday.
The Senators started strong with an 8-0 victory in the No. 1 doubles match, as Laura Fermosel and Elise Simon defeated Katie Laughlin and Elizabeth Clayton.
Ester Bolmenas and Kelsie Roby then earned a defeat over Hannah Blythe and Eva Sampson with an 8-1 victory.
Amanda Fewster and Haileigh Carper capped off a sweep of doubles action with an 8-3 victory over Elizabeth Greer and Amy Gossett.
Fermosel and Roby would be the first two winners for the Senators in singles play, clinching the victory.
Roby earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Laughlin in the No. 4 singles match to put the Senators on the edge of clinching the victory.
Fermosel then sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Clayton in the No. 1 singles match.
The Senators will face Cedarville in a rematch of last year’s championship match, as the Senators look to repeat. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start today.
