Lady Tigers bow to Huskies, 7-3
ELKINS — Korri Evans and Sydney Leary had multiple hits for Elkins Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to carry the Lady Tigers past North Marion in Big 10 Conference softball action. The Huskies won the game, 7-3.
“We played well tonight, we just got beat by a team that put together hits when they needed it,” EHS coach Sherri Collett said. “We didn’t have the RBIs that we needed at the time and we got beat. North Marion was a good team and we just couldn’t pull it out.”
Evans recorded the loss for the Lady Tigers. In 7 innings of work, she gave up 7 runs on 9 hits and struck out 3 batters. At the plate, she went 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a walk.
Leary set the tone for EHS at the plate. She went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Haley Collett finished the day 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Madison Wagner went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
Cara Minor earned the victory for the Lady Huskies on the mound. She pitched 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4 batters and walking 1.
Hannah Harker did the damage at the plate for NMHS, going 2 for 4 with a home run, 2 RBIs and a run scored. The home run came in the third inning to give North Marion a 4-3 advantage. From that point on, the Lady Huskies never looked back as they added 2 more runs in the fourth inning and 1 more in the sixth.
Elkins (7-10) is set to host Robert C. Byrd in a doubleheader. Game times are set for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Senior Night activities will take place between games for the Lady Tigers.
