Lady Tigers power past Philip Barbour

PHILIPPI — Mackenzie Guy and Madison Wagner had 4 hits each Thursday, as the Lady Tigers blasted Philip Barbour, 17-0, in Big 10 Conference softball action.

“We played very well,” EHS coach Sherri Collett said. “Everybody did their part. Our defense was solid tonight. We just played, really. I was pleased with the effort.”

Korri Evans tossed 7 innings to earn the victory. She struck out 9 batters, gave up 4 hits and issued 1 walk.

Guy and Wagner did a majority of the damage at the plate for EHS. Guy finished the game 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored, while Wagner went 4 for 5 with a double, an RBI and 3 runs scored.

Hali Newlon, 2 for 4 with a double, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored, and Sydney Leary, 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 2 sacrifices, also played well.

Savannah Webster recorded the loss for the Lady Colts on the mound. Nicolle Metheney, Jessical Metheney, Erica Simon and Brianna Warner combined for the team’s 4 hits.

Elkins (7-9) is set to host Bridgeport today at 6 p.m.

Philip Barbour is set to play in the Bub Riggleman Memorial Tournament this weekend in Moorefield. The team will play two games today with contests at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
