Lady Tigers stumble at Liberty

CLARKSBURG — Haley Smith and Morgan Bowers had multiple hits Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough to help the Lady Tigers earn a victory.

Elkins fell, 10-2, to Liberty in Big 10 Conference action.

“I was upset with our performance,” EHS coach Sherri Collett said. “We had six errors on the field and we can’t win like that. We’ve got to pick our heads up and play again (today). We’ll see how much depth they have and what they’re made of (today).”

Logan Shanholtz earned the victory for the Lady Mountaineers. In 5 innings, she gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 3 batters.

Korri Evans went the distance for EHS and took the loss. She scattered 9 hits over 5 innings, surrendering 9 hits and striking out 1 batter.

Smith and Bowers both went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Lady Tigers. Smith and Hali Newlon scored the team’s two runs. Madison Wagner and Mackenzie Guy both finished the day 1 for 2.

Elkins (5-7, 4-2 Big 10) is set to host Lewis County today at 6 p.m.
