Lady Vikings undefeated at 11-0

PETERSBURG — Petersburg High School downed visiting fellow Class AA Potomac Valley Conference opponent Berkeley Springs twice Tuesday, winning both halves of a double-header to improve the Lady Vikings’ record to 11-0.

Petersburg edged BSHS 6-3 in the first game, and dispatched the visitors with a second victory, 11-3, in game two.

Carly Cooper got the mound victory in game one.

She tossed the yellow grenade with stats of 7 hits while fanning 5 batters and walked 4.

Petersburg led 4-0 after 5 innings, thanks in part to a 2-RBI single by Lexi Earle, and an RBI single by Kerri Vanmeter.

Berkeley Springs pitched around Callie Wisnewski, but errors cost them as Wisnewski crossed the plate nonetheless.

Haley Ours took the hill in the back half of the twin bill, and got the win after 3 innings of work. Ours struck out two batters, allowed 2 hits and walked none.

Petersburg coach Bubba Hedrick said 4 runs in the third inning came via big hits.

Lauren Fleming and Alexis Vance each notched a pair of RBI doubles.

Wisnewski added a 2-RBI single to help keep the hosts leading throughout.

Petersburg is slated for a home game today against PVC foe Keyser.
