BRUCETON MILLS — Round 5 of the Full Throttle Harescramble Championship Series got underway Saturday at Shady Grove Off-Road Park in Bruceton. The track had its share of challenges for the riders. Paul Koontz, owner of the series, kept the motocross section, but also added a four log enduro cross section just for fun.

Seven pro riders lined up on the front line as the ATV race began. Randolph County native J.D. Brown grabbed the hole shot and took the early lead.

“I got out front early and tried to not make any mistakes,” Brown said. “I came to the big mud hole on the first lap and the spectators pointed me a good line. I got through it with no problems.”

Brown held on to the lead the remainder of the race, taking the overall win.

“It’s always nice to be at the track with all of my friends and family. It’s my home away from home,” Brown said.

Brandon Riffle, a pro-am rider, held on to take second place for the day and Bryan Channell finished in third.

In dirt bike action, the top four riders seemed to be keeping it a close race most of the day. Clint Masters and Aaron Layman pulled ahead to make it an interesting battle the last few laps. Masters held on for the win with Layman finishing in second and Ed King rounding out the Top 3.

Next up, round six will be at Goff Farm in Tunnelton on June 3rd. Koontz is making this event “New Racers Half Price Day!” He is offering new series riders in youth and adult classes half off their entry fee.

That means new adult riders pay $15 and new youth riders only pay $10. New trails will be added at this location along with a great youth track. There is still enough races left in the Full Throttle Series to qualify for the end of year series awards.
