Tucker teams traveling to other counties
PARSONS — Tucker County Little League is now playing games in three different locations in Tucker County and also traveling to play teams in other counties.
“The league has operated for many years and is still going strong. We have about 150 players this year,” said Dr. Eddie Campbell, the Tucker County superintendent of schools.
Campbell is a former president of Tucker County Little League, and his wife, Zhilan, has been the president for the past two years.
“We have games almost every day,” he said. “The T-ball teams play on Tuesday and Saturday, Minor League teams play on Wednesday and Little League teams play Mondays and other evenings as well.
“We have Little League teams play in Elkins on Wednesday and Friday,” Campbell said. “We play with Elkins, Moorefield and Belington.
“It’s good for the kids,” he noted. “Because we’re so small, this gives our kids a chance to compete against different players, and it lets the kids get out into the community and meet people.”
The teams play at Camp Kidd, outside of Parsons, which has two baseball fields, and also at the Knights of Columbus Community Park in Thomas, as well as the Davis Ball Field in Davis.
“All of our schedules are posted on the Tucker County Youth Baseball Page on Facebook,” Campbell said.
He stressed that many people contribute to keeping the league going.
“Our league has been running for many years,” Campbell said. “There are a lot of volunteers who keep it going. There are parents who coach, umpire, run the concession stand and do many other things for the league. The community is very supportive of the league.”
Campbell is helping to coach one of the Little League teams this year.
“We want kids and parents to understand that we’re wanting to grow baseball in our community,” he said.
