Elkins Post 29 drops games to Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG — Elkins Post 29 dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Parkersburg Post 15 on Sunday afternoon. Parkersburg took the first game, 3-1, then capped the second contest with a 6-4 victory.

“Adam Riggleman pitched a heck of a game,” Post 29 manager Chris George said. “We just didn’t help him, both in the field and at the plate. In the second game, we just didn’t get timely hits. Overall, we just aren’t focusing like we need to.”

Adam Riggleman (0-4) shouldered the loss in Game 1. Through 6 innings, Riggleman struck out 10 batters while giving up 1 earned run on 8 hits.

Jared Kerns and Sam Ross set the pace at the plate in the first game. Both players finished the contest 2 for 3, while Ross collected 1 RBI. Justin Fike went 2 for 2 and Luke Petrice had a sacrifice fly that netted an RBI.

Nathan Curtis earned the victory for Parkersburg. He went 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 8 hits and struck out 4 batters.

In game two, Read Schumacher (3-1) recorded the loss for Post 29. He gave up 4 earned runs on 13 hit in 5 1/3 innings of action.

Kyle Riggleman was tops at the plate for Post 29. He finished the game 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Brett Smith went 2 for 2, while Petrice went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.

Ben Mack went the distance for Post 15 to earn the victory. He gave up 4 runs on 10 hits and struck out 2 batters.

Elkins Post 29 (11-9) is set to return to action on Tuesday when the team travels to face Buckhannon Post 7 at 7 p.m.
