Post 29 loses epic slugfest, 21-20

GLENVILLE — Elkins Post 29 blew a 12-run lead Tuesday, falling to Braxton County Post 33, 21-20, in American Legion baseball action.

Ben Fincham earned the victory in relief for Braxton County. He went 5 innings, giving up 8 runs on 9 hits while striking out 4 batters.

Kyle Riggleman shouldered the loss for Elkins. He went 1 inning, giving up 5 earned runs on 2 hits, striking out 3 batters and walking 4 others. At the plate, he went 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBIs.

Ben McDonald set the pace for Post 29 at the plate, going 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored and 1 RBI. Brett Smith also played well. He went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

Elkins scored 12 runs in the fifth inning and had a 17-5 lead in the seventh inning. However, Braxton went on to score 6 runs in the bottom half of the seventh, 5 runs in the eighth and 5 runs in the ninth inning to take the victory.

Elkins Post 29 (9-7, 2-0 Area 5) is set to travel to East Fairmont High School today to face Fairmont Post 17. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
