Vet named MEC Female Athlete of the Year
BRIDGEPORT — West Virginia Wesleyan softball standout Hannah Vet has been named the Mountain East Conference Female Athlete of the Year for 2016-17.
Vet, a junior from Naples, Florida, went 28-4 with a 0.94 ERA in the circle for the Lady Bobcats.
She ranked second in the country in ERA and 10th in victories.
Vet struck out 149 batters in 216 innings, and was sixth in the country in walks per seven innings (0.58).
In addition to earning MEC Pitcher of the Year accolades, Vet was also tabbed as an NFCA All-American.
She helped Wesleyan to its first NCAA Atlantic Region title and an appearance in the College World Series.
Vet was named to the 2017 NCAA Division II World Series All-Tournament Team. She appeared in all four tournament games and started three. She threw two shutouts, including the 4-0 victory over Molloy and the 1-0 nail-biter win over West Florida.
She pitched 20 1/3 innings and allowed 15 hits, four runs, four earned runs, walked three and fanned 10. Her earned-run-average in the World Series was a 1.37 as she went 2-1.
Wesleyan finished third in the nation with a 51-10 record.
The MEC Female Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
