BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan Department of Athletics and head softball coach Steve Warner is pleased to announce that Sawyer Fried is the newest member of the softball coaching staff.

Fried is a native of Miami, Florida, and will join the staff focusing on catchers and outfielders.

She is a 2016 graduate of the University of Hartford (Conn.) where she started 179 out of 190 collegiate career games, 157 of those starts coming from behind the plate.

She was named team captain her senior year, as well as earning All-Conference Tournament Team honors.

She posted a team-best batting average her sophomore season as well as leading the team in hits, RBI’s and OBP that season. She led the team in doubles her senior year.

Following her graduation, she spent last year continuing her softball career overseas.

Fried joined the KIF Eagles of Orebro, Sweden. Throughout her time abroad she represented Sweden in the European Premiere Cup Women hosted in Ronchi, Italy earning sixth place overall as well as assisting in coaching the Swedish National Team to the Baltic Cup victory.

When Fried wasn’t playing softball she was coaching younger teams such as the 8u & 18u Miami Stingrays, 14u Ct Mirage and the KIF Eagles Junior Team.

“We are excited for Sawyer to join our staff,” remarked Warner. “She has a very positive attitude, is very knowledgeable and very passionate about the game of softball.”

Away from the field, Fried enjoys animals, the outdoors and spending time with her family.

She is the daughter of Kathy and Glenn Fried and has two sisters — Ally and Zoe Fried
