Lady Tigers drop 1-0 loss to Grafton

The Inter-Mountain photos by Tony Baisi Elkins High School junior Susan Riggleman drops back on defense while the Lady Tigers take on Grafton Tuesday.

GRAFTON — After missing a shot on goal early in the game Tuesday, the Lady Tigers didn’t get many more chances to find the net in a 1-0 loss to Big 10 Conference rival Grafton.

“It was not a good performance for us tonight,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “I thought we came out real well. We had a quick shot early in the game, it was a good look. From there, we didn’t really get any more productivity towards the goal.

“We only ended up with 3 shots, 2 more after that. After their goal, our effort kind of fell off a little.”

After a 0-0 deadlock at the intermission, Grafton’s Rachel McKinney blasted a shot into the goal to put the Lady Bearcats up 1-0. From there, Elkins couldn’t recover.

Elkins (3-2-1) returns to action on Thursday to face Preston County in a Big 10 Conference matchup.

EHS sophomore Isabella Karlen engages a Grafton player while defending the field Tuesday.

Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
