D&E falls to Walsh

ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins volleyball squad fell to conference opponent Walsh in four sets on Friday night.

In the first set, the Senators briefly had the lead but quickly relinquished the lead when Walsh went on a run to win the first set, 25-17.

In the second set, the Senators raced to a 10-5 lead, prompting a timeout from the Cavaliers.

D&E held onto the lead and won the set 25-20, by holding off a fierce rally from their opponent.

In the third set, D&E briefly had a lead, but the Cavaliers retook it quickly and held on to win the set, 25-16.

In the fourth set, the Senators held the lead for the majority of the set but were unable to handle the rally from Walsh, and ultimately lost the set and the game, 25-18.

The Senators had a slight advantage in blocks: D&E had nine blocks compared to six blocks from the Cavaliers.

Sophomore Kaitlyn LaCour led the team in kills with 12, followed by Raleighanne Weaver and Sasha Johnson, who each had eight.

Kelly Smith led the team with two aces, followed by Zoe Craig and LaCour, who each had an ace.

Johnson continued her strong performance for the second day in a row by leading the way with five blocks, followed by Weaver and Anna Gallup, who each had three blocks.

Freshman Elyse Bonnett led the Senators with 21 assists, followed by Craig with 19 and Smith with 5.

Smith also led the team with eleven digs, followed by LaCour with 10, and Craig with six.

The Senators return to action on Tuesday against rival West Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
