EHS girls blank Morgantown, 2-0
ELKINS — Rachel Crawford and Nonee High found the back of the net Thursday as the Lady Tigers blanked Morgantown, 2-0, in non-conference soccer action.
“It was a big game for us to step up and play well,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “I thought we came out and played really well in the first half and I feel like we dictated the tempo of the game early.
“We had a lot of good looks. We were able to finish again on some set pieces on our corners and I think that’s some of the differences in the past few weeks of what we’ve been able to do. It was a tough week. To get two wins in two games against the opponents we had, I’m really proud of the effort the girls put in.”
After about 18 minutes into the first half, Crawford scored off a corner kick to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. Just a few minutes later, High found the net off another corner kick when she headed the ball into the goal after it caromed off the post. The 2-0 lead held up through the intermission.
Neither team could light the scoreboard in the second half, landing the victory for EHS.
Elkins fired 11 shots on goal during the contest, while fending off 12 shots from the Lady Mohigans. EHS held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Following the game, the EHS junior varsity girls earned a 1-0 victory over the Morgantown J.V. team. In that game, Mackenzie Holland scored for Elkins.
Elkins (9-4-1) is set to return to action next Tuesday when East Fairmont travels to Festival City for a 5:30 p.m. matchup
