SHINNSTON — Elkins goal keeper Taylor Phillips stonewalled Lincoln on Thursday, as the Lady Tigers blanked the Lady Cougars, 3-0, in Big 10 Conference action.

“I felt we moved the ball really well,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “We had a little bit of difficulty getting started … We had 17 shots in the game, so we just have to get more efficient with our scoring opportunities.”

Maiju Hyvarinen put Elkins on the scoreboard with 16 minutes left in the first half on an assist by Rachel Phillips. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Nonee High found the back of the net on an assist from Sophia Triplett to put EHS up 2-0.

Less than a minute later, High returned the favor by feeding the ball to Triplett for another Lady Tigers goal.

Lincoln could not overcome the 3-goal deficit.

In the net, Phillips had three saves to keep the Lady Cougars scoreless.

Elkins (6-2-1) is set to travel to Putnam County on Saturday to face Class AA No. 1 ranked Winfield.

The Generals have won the previous four Class AA State Championships.
