AB defeats Walsh in double OT win
NORTH CANTON, Ohio– Shavon John-Brown’s game-winning goal in the 105th minute lifted the Alderson Broaddus men’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Walsh University at Milazzo Field.
AB scored first on a unassisted goal by Haris Miftari in the ninth minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. The Battlers scored again at 17:01 on a pass by Jose Tabares-Ochoa to Daniel Yague to make the score 2-0.
In the second half, the Cavaliers scored at 54:39 on a goal by Gary Canam to cut the lead to 2-1. Late in the game, Steven Taylor of Walsh connected to Dwight Van Dyke to force overtime in the 86th minute.
In double overtime, Shavon John-Brown scored in the 105th minute to give the Battlers the win.
Blake Carter started the game and had two saves before Patrick Negele came in during the first overtime and had one save in the match to record the victory. Walsh’s Jon-Paul Della Pia had five saves in the match.
The Battlers had nine shots on goal to the Cavaliers had five shots on goal.
With the win, the Battlers now have 23 conference points with one game to play. With a win at D&E on Tuesday or a Cedarville loss to Ohio Valley, the Battlers will clinch the No.4 seed in the G-MAC Tournament which begins on Saturday. The top four teams in the league will host quarterfinal games next Saturday.
