D&E sweeps KWC
ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins volleyball tean swept Kentucky Wesleyan, beating them 25-21, 25-23, and 27-25.
In the first set, the Senators built an early lead and never looked back, winning the set 25-21.
In the second set, Davis & Elkins came back from a 19-12 deficit to win the set 25-23 by capitalizing on attacking errors from KWC, and by playing good, team defense.
In the third set, D&E and Kentucky Wesleyan traded leads until the Senators pulled away late in the set, ultimately wining the set and the game 27-25.
The Senators had 12 blocks compared to the Panthers’ four, and eight aces compared to KWC’s one.
Kaitlyn LaCour lead the team with nine kills, followed by Sasha Johnson with seven and Zoe Craig with four.
Freshman Elyse Bonnett had a career high of three aces, followed by Zoe Craig and Kelly Smith, who each had two aces.
Raleighanne Weaver and Johnson led the team in the blocks department, as each of them had five apiece.
LaCour, who came close to achieving her fourth double-double of the season, had four blocks.
Craig led the Senators team with 15 assists, followed by Bonnett with 10, and Lillie Mueller with two.
Mueller led the team in digs with 14, followed by Smith with 13, and LaCour with 10.
The Senators return to action this morning at 11 a.m. against conference opponent Trevecca Nazarene.
