D&E cross country teams compete in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Davis & Elkins College Cross Country teams competed this weekend at the Louisville Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville and the Louisville Sports Commission at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

The Senators ran strong at the prestigious and stacked event which featured many ranked programs in a national championship atmosphere type of event.

The men’s program earned an eighth-place finish overall among 14 Division 2 programs, as well as beating several Division I programs in the 8K Blue race. The Senators also defeated local rivals West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit, averaging race times of 26:45.

RJ Weiford led the way for the Senators again this week, finishing 12th overall with a 25:52.2. Hayden Harrison bounced back with a strong second place run for the Senators and 23rd overall with a 26:17.5 in the event.

Davis Magda also earned a top 30 finish in the event, running 26th overall with a 26:25.3.

Shane Ickes and Aidan Konhaus rounded out the scoring for the Senators with 41st and 85th place finishes overall. Ickes ran a time of 26:48.2 and Konhaus came in with a 28:24.2.

On the women’s side, the Senators finished in a tie for 11th overall with Wheeling Jesuit, the first time the program has ever matched the successful in-state program.

Danielle Haynes continues to lead the way for the Senators, as she ran to a 17th place finish overall with a 19:04.7 in the 5K race. Olivia Underwood finished second for D&E with a 20:00.7.

Reba Cutright and Kirsten Gateless ran 68th and 69th overall, finishing with times of 20:17.5 and 20:18.6, respectively. Lavania Lemasters rounded out the scoring for the Senators with a 20:31.7 for 79th overall.

The Senators will return to action on Saturday with the final regular season race before the Great Midwest Championships. The Senators will compete at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
