EMS cruises past Robert L. Bland
WESTON — Jay Crockett scored 4 touchdowns Wednesday, as Elkins Middle School defeated Robert L. Bland, 47-20.
“It was total team effort,” EMS coach Martin Kniley said. “Every kid got to play and every kid had the opportunity to get out there. They were coachable. After the first series, we called a time out and we were able to get them in position and the defense started doing their job from there.”
Crockett set the pace for the Hornets with 4 touchdowns. Teammates Isavir Sweezy, Charlie Smoak and Jayden Shreve scored rushing touchdowns, while Isaac Talkington returned an interception 55 yards for paydirt. EMS kicked Haiden Ponikvar successfully made 3 extra point attempts in the game.
Kniley noted much of the success from the victory could be attributed to defensive coordinator Jay Auvil.
“Jay absolutely does a wonderful job,” Kniley said. “He has worked very hard at watching video from last year. He had the kids in the right positions and doing the right things. He’s an outstanding defensive coordinator and has done and outstanding job for me.”
Elkins (3-4) is set to host East Fairmont next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the season finale.
