Lady Colts stumble

WILLIAMSTOWN — The Philip Barbour volleyball squad was able to get past Williamstown 25-12 and 25-23, but the Class A Wirt County Lady Tigers proved to be too much while overtaking the Class AA champion Colts 25-16 and 25-17 in the night cap.

Colby Nestor led the team in serving with 9 points versus the WHS Lady Yellowjackets, while Maddi and McKenzie Carpenter recorded 6 each from the service line.

Maddi Carpenter notched 17 assists. McKenzie Carpenter inked 9 kills while Jyra Casto capped off the kill zone with 5 hits grounded for PB points. Casto also added 8 blocks on defense for PBHS.

Maddi Carpenter went on to garner 14 assists against Wirt. Maddy Jones nabbed 4 digs and 3 points with an ace included. Jenna Brown earned 3 service points. Casto collected another 4 blocks, and the Colts continued to gel.

Philip Barbour’s opponents on Saturday at Hedgesville will include AAA Hampshire, A Tyler and defending Class A champion East Hardy.
