Lady Tigers fall in sectional play

CLARKSBURG — The Elkins High School volleyball team’s promising season came to an end Monday evening with a loss to Robert C. Byrd in the first round of sectional play.

The scores were 6-25, 15-25 and 5-25.

“It just wasn’t in the cards for us tonight,” EHS coach Penny Crawford said. “The girls were disappointed, but I told them, ‘Let’s look at what we did on the season and not what we did tonight.’

“I’m proud of what we accomplished this year. I think we really improved over last year. I hope the girls will realize that and hold their heads up,” Crawford said.

The Lady Tigers finished the season with a very respectable 13-9 record, including a 7-5 mark in conference play.

Elkins’ five seniors who played their last match for the school Monday evening are Jaide Elbon, Laria Rush, Jalyssa Reams, Lilli Owens and Paige Cooper.

Monday’s sectional action opened with Liberty defeating Lincoln. Bridgeport then beat Lincoln to move on to the title game Wednesday against RCB
