TVMS posts road win

DURBIN — The Tygarts Valley Middle School football squad defeated Pocahontas County 16-8 Wednesday evening.

With the win, TVMS moves to 2-3 on the season.

“It was a real close game,” said TVMS coach Adam Smith. “It was 8-8 at halftime, and then we scored on a long 75-yard pass in the second half, and got the two-point conversion.”

“Our defense pitched a shutout,” Smith said. “We gave up a touchdown on a kickoff return, and those were the only points we gave up. Defensively they played a really great game.”

Dimitri Fountas had 20 carries for 105 yards on the ground to lead TVMS.

Quarterback Garrett Gibson scored on a pair of two-point conversion runs, and completed 4 passes for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brandon Bennett caught 3 passes for 11 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Defensively, Ian Maxell had 5 tackles, Sebastian Lindsey had 3 tackles and Bennett added 3 tackles as well.

Gibson and Fountas both had interceptions.

Tygarts Valley Middle will host Barbour County Oct. 11.
