3 Lady Tigers earn honors

The Inter-Mountain file photos by Logan Comer Elkins junior Ally Hammond was named to the Big 10’s All-Conference First Team.

ELKINS — This season the Lady Tigers volleyball squad defended home court at Richard P. Simmons Gymnasium while also going on the road in the Big 10 to collect a 7-5 conference record. Now three Elkins players have been named to the 2017 All-Conference Team for the Big 10

Elkins High School junior Ally Hammond was named to the First Team. Sophomore Samantha Price picked up a Second Team nod, and senior Jaide Elbon garnered an Honorable Mention place for the EHS Tigers.

Hammond has played three seasons for the orange and black. Hammond will certainly be looked to for leadership on varsity next year.

“Ally is an outside hitter, but she can also play any and all positions,” veteran Elkins coach Penny Crawford said. “Leadership is number one, and she has a love for the game that is infectious. Her love for the game rubs off, and she works hard. She’s a good leader on the court.”

Price played junior varsity as a freshman, but moved up to the varsity squad as a sophomore for the Lady Tigers.

“This was Samantha’s first year on varsity,” Crawford said. “She is a phenomenal hitter when she gets it organized. She has a great serve. We kept her out of the back row just to keep her fresh on the front line. As a sophomore, she was a fun player to watch.”

“I will also mention that there was a senior, Jaide Elbon, making Honorable Mention for us,” veteran Elkins coach Penny Crawford said. “She’s played three years for me, and been very ominous at the front line. Jaide did a good job as an outside hitter to be recognized by the conference’s coaches.”
