D&E teams do well at tourney

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Davis & Elkins College men’s swim team finished third overall at the Corbiere-Merion Invitational on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Javier Sanchez and Pedro Gaspar paced the Senators with five first-place finishes among the two swimmers.

Sanchez earned three of the victories in the two-day event, winning in the 200-yard Individual Medley (1:56.69), 200-yard Breaststroke (2:09.09) and the 400-yard Individual Medley (4:08.51).

Sanchez broke his own school record in the 400-yard Individual Medley by over 3.5 seconds.

He was also third in the 100 Breaststroke (1:00.9).

Gaspar took top honors in the 200-yard Backstroke (1:56.17) and 500-yard Freestyle (4:44.03) events.

Gaspar’s time in the 200-yard Backstroke was also a new school record, breaking a record he set this year by over two seconds.

He also placed second in the 100-yard Backstroke (53.78) and 400-yard Individual Medley (4:17.25).

D&E’s Parker Giles garnered three top five finishes at the event, placing second in the 100-yard Butterfly (52.85), and fourth in the 100-yard Freestyle (47.45) and 50-yard Freestyle (21.74).

Giles broke Gaspar’s school record in the 100-yard Butterfly by .17 seconds. Giles also set a school record in the 100-yard Freestyle, edging the previous school mark by .07.

Richard Castan took second place in the 1650-yard Freestyle (17:08.62) and was fourth in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:52.74).

Gavin Burnham chipped in with fourth place honors in the 100-yard Butterfly (54.51) and 100-yard Individual Medley (58.05).

The Senators will return to action on December 2, taking on Fairmont State in a meet held at California University of Pennsylvania. The meet is set for a 1 p.m. start.

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Davis & Elkins College women’s swim team captured a third-place finish at the Corbiere-Merion Invitational on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Kenya Paiz led the way for the Senators, collecting three first place finishes in the event. Paiz took first in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:09.13), 200-yard Individual Medley (2:13.17) and the 400-yard Individual Medley (4:47.31).

Piaz’s times in the 100-yard Breaststroke and 200-yard Individual Medley also broke school records; the first her own by over a second and the second held previously by Brooke Bielecki.

Paiz was also second in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:33.21) event.

Vitoria Issaho dos Santos also had a strong showing for D&E, placing first in both the 100-yard Backstroke (59.15) and 200-yard Backstroke (2:08.28)

Her time in the 100-yard Backstroke was a new school record, breaking her own mark by .75 seconds.

Issaho dos Santos also took third in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:21.48).

Jamie Boulier finished first in the 1650-yard Freestyle (18:20.52) for the Senators, while also placing second in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:16.77) and third in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:02.14).

Boulier’s time in the 500-yard Freestyle set a new school record, breaking the mark previously held by Issaho dos Santos by 3.5 seconds.

Mia Ellison chipped in with a third-place finish in the 1650-yard Freestyle (18:43.90) and a fourth-place tally in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:29.17).

D&E’s 800-yard Freestyle Relay team took first place overall with a time of 8:07.77. That squad consists of Issaho dos Santos, Ellison, Boulier and Paiz.

The Senators will return to action on December 2, taking on California (PA) and Fairmont State in a double-dual meet held at California University of Pennsylvania. The meet is set for a 1 p.m. start.
