East Hardy comes back to advance

BAKER — Clay Skovron and Brett Tharp hooked up for a touchdown late in the game Friday, as Class A No. 1 ranked East Hardy came from behind to defeat No. 16 ranked Williamstown, 14-10, in the opening round of the state football tournament.

Williamstown drew first blood with a field goal to make the score 3-0. The Cougars answered when Skovron scored on a short TD run near the end of the first quarter. The score was 7-3 at halftime.

The Yellowjackets went up 10-7 in the third quarter when running back Donathon Taylor found paydirt from 10 yards out. Not to be outdone, Skovron hit Tharp for a touchdown pass with about 5 minutes left in the contest to give EHHS the 14-10 victory.

The Cougars (11-0) have home field advantage and will host next week’s second round matchup. Game time and the opponent is yet to be determined.
