B-UHS girls win at tourney

GLENVILLE — Buckhannon-Upshur senior point guard Hanna McClung led her team with 27 points at Glenville State College’s Waco Center Wednesday to help the Lady Bucs beat fellow Class AAA IOGA tournament opponent Cabell Midland 44-29 in opening round action.

McClung recorded a double-double, grabbing 10 steals to go along with a 7 for 9 day at the charity stripe, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Buckhannon notched a 14-8 advantage to begin second-period play. Cabell won the second stanza, 9-5, to only trail 19-17 at halftime.

With a 12-6 margin to double the CMHS Knights up in the third, B-UHS went into the final frame up by 10. They kept command with a 13-6 finish over the final 8 minutes of regulation for the win.

Lauren Bennett, a 12th-grader, recorded 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 takeaways, and handed out a pair of assists.

Buckhannon-Upshur junior Alli Robinson put up a stingy effort with 9 steals. She also collected 4 boards, 3 points and 3 assists. Fellow 11th-grader Audrey Gaudet also played well, tallying 8 rebounds, 2 points, 2 assists, and a steal for the Buccaneers.

Senior McKinley Gaudet hauled in 3 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist.

Buckhannon is slated to be back in action today at GSC for a match-up against either Wheeling Park or Riverside.
