Hornets head to next round
SHINNSTON — Cory Harper was the game’s leading scorer Thursday, as Elkins Middle School defeated Barrackville, 59-17, in the opening round of the Jay Carpenter Annual Classic Junior Varsity Tournament at Lincoln Middle School. The Hornets will play in the championship round today at 7:30 p.m.
“The kids always play with such unselfishness,” EMS coach Doug Boggs said. “It’s not about who scores. They share the ball and work to be successful each time they have a possession. They really do a good job of sharing and playing as a team.”
Elkins jumped out to a 28-3 advantage at the intermission and never looked back.
Harper set the pace with 10 points, while teammate Maxie McCollum chipped in 7 points.
The Elkins Junior Varsity squad (6-0) is set to face the winner of Mountaineer Middle School/Lincoln Middle School in the tournament championship today at 7:30 p.m.
