No. 1 Lady Bucs win
FAIRMONT — Hanna McClung’s 29 points for Buckhannon-Upshur coupled with 27 turnovers recovered by the Class AAA No. 1 ranked Lady Bucs resulted in a 62-42 win over Class AA No. 2 Fairmont Senior in Big 10 Conference action.
Buckhannon, AAA runner-up from a season ago, is currently out to a 6-game winning streak with a 10-1 resume after having only one bump in the road at home in December, when AA Big 10 opponent North Marion overcame B-UHS with a 66-51 decision.
McClung shot 50 percent from two-point range, and sank 13 of 14 from the foul line, going along with her 5 steals, 3 assists and 3 rebounds on the evening to help pace the visiting squad.
Fairmont Senior fell behind 21-12 after the opening quarter. With a 13-12 win in the second period, the Lady Polar Bears cut into the deficit by only one point, leaving B-U with a 33-25 advantage at halftime.
Third-frame action resulted in a 13-10 margin for the Bucs to go further ahead, 46-35. A 16-7 fourth by B-U tidied things up for Buckhannon altogether.
Alli Robinson was just shy of a double-double in the contest, racking up 10 points and 9 boards for the Buccaneers. Robinson went 4 of 4 at the charity stripe, and collected a pair of steals.
Lauren Bennett put 10 in the scoring column, pulled down 5 rebounds, and recorded 4 takeaways for B-U.
Audrey Gaudet inked 9 points while being 3 out of 4 at the line, gathered 7 rebounds, and inked 2 assists and 2 steals for the guests.
Weather permitting, Buckhannon-Upshur is slated to be on the road today at Morgantown High School for a AAA sectional battle against the Lady Mohigans.
