Pocahontas County boys stay unbeaten

DUNMORE — The Pocahontas County Warriors, ranked No. 7 in Class A, ran their record to a perfect 8-0 Wednesday with a 59-47 home victory over Pendleton County.

Junior Elijah Robertson led the Warriors with 20 points, while senior Briar Wilfong added 13 and fellow 12th-grader Jarret Taylor pitched in 9.

Pendleton’s Marcus Sites, a junior, led all scorers with 20, while his teammate Laird Sweet, a sophomore, added 9 points.

On Tuesday night, the Warriors traveled to Fayette County and downed Midland Trail 65-53.

Senior Logan Dilly led the team with 20 points, while Taylor poured in 18 and Wilfong added 17,

The Warriors will resume play at Richwood at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In junior varsity action, Pocahontas defeated Pendleton 45-42 Wednesday.

Junior Kyle Cohenour led the way with 14 points on the night, while junior Jordan Nutter kicked in 12.

For Pendleton, freshman Taylor Wimer led all scorers with 17 and sophomore Colt Smith added 7.


Midland Trail 54, Lady Warriors 50

HICO — The No. 8 Pocahontas County Lady Warriors suffered a road loss Tuesday night, falling to Midland Trail 54-50.

Sophomore Laila Calhoun had a career-high 22 points for the Lady Warriors, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Lady Patriots, who found the bottom of the net for 7 three-pointers the game.

Sophomore Kira Bircher added 5 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Pocahontas, while junior Brianna Hefner added 9 points.

The Lady Warriors outrebounded Midland Trail 37-28 on the night.

Pocahontas County (8-3) will take to the road Friday to face Tucker County.
