Pocahontas girls garner another victory
DUNMORE — The Class A No. 11 ranked Lady Warriors finished Saturday’s contest with the most points they’ve scored in a game this season, defeating Greater Beckley Christian, 72-22.
For Pocahontas County, sophomore Charity Warder collected her second double double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Teammates Laila Calhoun (16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals) and Sage McLaughlin (10 points) also reached double digits in scoring. Other top performers included: Alexa Taylor, 9 points and 7 assists; Kira Bircher, 6 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists; Brianna Hefner, 6 points and 7 rebounds; Jerica Reed, 5 points; and Destiny Vandevender, 3 points.
Lydia Jordan was the leading scorer for Greater Beckley Christian with 7 points.
The Lady Warriors finished the contest with a season low 8 turnovers and caused GBCHS to turn the ball over 33 times. PCHS also outrebounded the opposition, 46 to 31.
Pocahontas County (10-4) returns to action today when the team travels to Pendleton County. Junior varsity action tips off at 6:15 p.m. and the varsity contest is slated for 7:30 p.m.
