TVHS falls at home
MILL CREEK — The Tygarts Valley Bulldogs were down by 2 points going into the fourth quarter Wednesday, but didn’t have enough gas left in the tank to take down South Harrison in boys varsity basketball. The Hawks won the contest, 61-58.
“It was good to have three players in double figures on scoring,” TVHS coach Tom Wamsley said. “We’ve been waiting on that to happen. It was probably our best game of the year.
“It was good to see the improvement. Now we’ve got to turn that into wins. The kids are playing hard. We’re just not executing in clutch times.
“They had a chance. As a coach, that’s all you can ask for — that they play hard and give themselves a chance to win,” Wamsley said. “That’s what they’re doing.”
TVHS got out of the gate quick, taking a 20-14 advantage after the first quarter of play.
SHHS stormed back in the second quarter to tie the game 35-35 at the intermission.
The Hawks took the third stanza, 13-15, and closed out the game by edging the Bulldogs 11-10 in the final stanza to earn the victory.
Three Bulldogs reached double digits in scoring. Austin Lanham was the leading scorer for TVHS with 20 points, while Brett Smith contributed 16 points and Logan George added 11 points.
South Harrison’s Brent Barnett was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points.
Teammate Nick Fenstermacher was just off the pace, finishing the contest with 22 points.
TVHS (3-5) is set to travel to Notre Dame on Friday.
Junior varsity tipoff is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and varsity action gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
