TVMS Bulldogs stay unbeaten

MILL CREEK — Brandon Bennett and Garrett Gibson eclipsed double figures in scoring Thursday, as Tygarts Valley Middle School defeated Belington, 36-24, to remain unbeaten in boys varsity basketball.

“I’m proud of the kids on a tough win,” TVMS coach James Markley said. “We played pretty well on defense throughout the whole game, but our offense was a little slow until the fourth quarter. Then we finally started making some shots.

“Our goal is to get better each game and learn from our mistakes. We don’t worry about being undefeated. We just take it one game at a time and come out to play as hard as we can each game,” he added.

Bennett was the game’s top scorer with 13 points. Gibson was just off the pace with 12 points.

Jayden Herron led the way for the Hawks with 8 points.

In junior varsity action, the Bulldogs picked up a 35-19 victory over BMS. Ashton Workman was the leading scorer for TVMS with 23 points, while Logan Phillips contributed 7 points. Miles Hutzler tallied 5 points for the Hawks.

Tygarts Valley (8-0) and Belington will have a rematch on Monday when the teams do battle again in Mill Creek. Junior varsity tipoff is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and the varsity contest will follow.
