Warriors run past Bulldogs, 72-50

DUNMORE — Four Warriors reached double digits in scoring Thursday, as Class A No. 8 ranked Pocahontas County ran past Tygarts Valley, 72-50.

“They came out very aggressive on both ends of the floor,” TVHS coach Tom Wamsley said. “We just did not match their intensity. We got down by 20 points at halftime and never really got any closer … They played hard and aggressive. I’ve got a young team that’s still not sure about themselves. It don’t take much to run us off the court.”

For Pocahontas County, Jarret Taylor set the tone with 19 points, including 5 three-pointers, while teammate Jacob Jones scored 14 points and Briar Wilfong and Elijah Robertson added 10 points each.

Tygarts Valley’s Brett Smith was the game’s leading scorer with 26 points. Cole Arbogast scored 8 points and Logan George added 6 points for TVHS.

Pocahontas (9-1) will play at Wirt County Friday in the first round of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament.

Tygarts Valley (3-6) is set to host Greenbrier West today at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the WVHIT.

Junior varsity action will tipoff prior to the game, at 5:45 p.m.

In junior varsity action Thursday, Pocahontas edged Tygarts Valley 49-46.

Cody Kiner scored 10 points for Pocahontas, while Kolton Alderman and Kyle Cohenour each had 8.
