MORGANTOWN — Elkins High School senior Alex Rosencrance swam for a pair of new school record times at the state swim meet Thursday and Friday, with both event times being good enough for second-place finishes among West Virginia’s best at the West Virginia University Natatorium.

Rosencrance set a new personal and EHS best of 2:04.08 with a runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley. He also set a new Elkins record in the 100 individual medley with a time of 48.74.

Finishing among the top six individuals on the boys side, Rosecrance earned spot on the All-State team.

“We are really going to miss our senior swimmers next season,” EHS coach Aimee Cain said. “They were all such a joy to work with over the past four years. In addition, they were all great team leaders.”

Elkins’ relay teams, consisting of Hayden Long on the first leg, Daniel Rubianto, Peyton Shields and Rosencrance, medaled in both the 200 and 400 freestyle events, with fifth and sixth finishes, respectively.

Hannah Phillips recorded a modest 10th place in the 100 breastroke, and finished her 500 yard freestyle time in 6 minutes and 13 seconds.

Long finished ninth in the 500 free.

Cain said it was a great opportunity and a learning experience for the squad.

“It was great for several underclassmen to experience the state meet this year so they can improve upon their techniques and times for next season and get a state bid again,” Cain added.
