Lady Bulldogs fall in tournament
BLACKSVILLE — The Tygarts Valley Lady Bulldogs’ basketball season came to an end Saturday with a loss in the opening round of the sectional tournament to Clay-Battelle, 57-38.
“It was a very close game in the first half,” said TVHS coach Nancy Lewis. “We were up 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, and were only behind 26-24 at the half.
“They caught fire with their three-point shooting in the second half, and we just couldn’t hit a shot,” Lewis said. “We only shot 18 percent in the second half.”
Clay-Battelle hit 10 three-pointers during the contest.
Emily Ball had a double-double for TVHS, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Courtney Haddix and Abby Harris each scored 9 points for the Lady Bulldogs, with Harris swiping 5 steals as well.
Kaleah Pritt added 5 points, while Tatum Wamsley scored 4 points and pulled down 5 rebounds.
Clay-Battelle’s Haley Barr led all scorers with 26 points on the night.
Saturday’s gametime was moved up to noon because of the weather.
TVHS, which finishes the season with a record of 8-14, will only lose two seniors, Pritt and Kelsey Armstrong, to graduation this year.
“We’ve got a lot to build on next year,” Lewis said. “They’re a good group of kids and they’ve grown a lot this year as a team.”
