Lady Colts grab victory in overtime

PHILIPPI — Philip Barbour senior Kasey Neville paced the Lady Colts with a double-double Tuesday, helping the home team pick up a 58-56 overtime win over Lewis County in Big 10 Conference action.

Neville, a Class AA champion in track and field for the Colts, racked up 16 points and 10 rebounds on senior night at the Colts’ Corral for Philip Barbour High School. Fellow senior teammates Adriana Christopher, Annie Ferguson and Sarah Jones were also honored at home.

“Tonight was a great win with a total team effort,” PBHS coach Curtis Bodkins said. “It was a very emotional night for our seniors; they did a great job leading and keeping their composure.”

Things turned out all right for PB after a 14-8 lead to start the second quarter. With a 23-6 explosion by the Minutemaids, Lewis County was in control, 31-20, at intermission.

The Lady Colts chomped away at the LCHS lead, only trailing 41-39 to begin the final 8 minutes of regulation. A 51-all count sent the game into overtime, where PB scored 7, and Lewis only scored 5 to help make the final decision.

Christopher paced PB in scoring with 17, handed out 7 assists, and stole the ball from LCHS 4 times.

Jones had a solid game with 7 boards and 6 points. Dystonie Simmons hit a pair of late three-pointers to help push the game in to overtime.

Philip Barbour (11-7) is slated to host East Fairmont today.
