Nestor sets scoring record

HAMBLETON — Tucker County senior Sydney Nestor set the new top record for scoring among girls and boys for Tucker County High School basketball Monday during a 73-23 dismantling of East Hardy in Potomac Valley Conference action on the mountain.

Nestor has been an absolute force for the Lady Mountain Lions, starting every game since she was a freshman for the black and gold. Year over year in her prep career, Nestor has led TCHS in most every category.

She needed 11 points prior to tipoff time Monday, and broke the previous record of 1,626 all-time points in the third quarter. After jumping ahead of a mark set by L.J. Gravelle in 2008, Nestor now stands as the all-time Tucker County High School leader with 1,634 career points to date.

Tucker had East Hardy all buttoned up with a 35-9 lead at the half. Nestor recorded a double-double with 18 points, 12 boards and 7 steals.

Fellow senior Sydney Moore also took part in Tucker having four players in double-figures with 10 points and 5 takeaways.

Cecily Strawderman and McKinley Murphy with 10 points each, and Dominique Meadows with 6 rebounds rounded out the Mountain Lions’ production.

Class A No. 3 Tucker is slated to close out the regular season with a pair of home games this week, taking on Pocahontas County Thursday and Wheeling Central on Friday.
