No. 9 Lady Warriors notch win

DUNMORE — Kira Bircher and Laila Calhoun led the charge Wednesday, as No. 9 ranked Pocahontas County toppled Valley Fayette, 50-43, in the second round of the Class A Region III Section 2 Tournament.

Bircher set the pace with 15 points, 4 steals, 3 assists and 5 deflections. Calhoun came alive in the second half, scoring all 14 of her points after the intermission.

Charity Warder, 7 points and 9 rebounds, and Alexa Taylor, 6 points, also played well for the Lady Warriors.

VFHS’s Hannah Foster was the game’s top scorer with 20 points. Teammate Hannah Hamm chipped in 7 points to the effort.

Pocahontas County (16-6) is set to host Charleston Catholic (9-13) on Friday in the sectional championship. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
