Battlers fall on the road at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky.– The Alderson Broaddus baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Bellarmine University on Sunday afternoon at Knights Field.

Game 1: Bellarmine 12, AB 0

Tyler Amedure, Todd Sekowski, Tylyn James, and Lane Casto each finished with base hits for the Battlers in the opener on Sunday. Zach Salmon took the loss on the hill and gave up five hits, six runs, and five earned, while striking out two.

Hunter Spencer got the win for Bellarmine as he allowed just three hits in six innings of work while striking out three. The Knights finished with 10 hits as Drew Greenwood finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored in a walk to lead the way.

Game 2: Bellarmine 9, AB 3

In game two, the Knights (9-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring two in the first and one in the second. In the top of the third, the Battlers (2-9) evened the game when Chuck Hooker hit his sixth home run of the season to tie the game at three.

Later in the third, Bellarmine got the lead back when they scored five runs in the bottom half and then added one more in the sixth to take game two 9-3.

Amedure finished 2-for-4 from the plate with a run scored while Hooker was 1-for-3 with three RBI’s. Shane Mallon took the loss on the hill as he went two innings and allowed five hits, seven runs, five earned, and struck out one. In relief, Justin Smith pitched four innings and gave up five hits, one earned run, and struck out five.

The Battlers return to action on Wednesday when they take on No.4 Mercyhurst University in a neutral site game held in Washington, Pennsylvania.
