EHS falls, 4-2

ELKINS — The Tigers’ defense committed 7 errors Tuesday, as East Fairmont defeated Elkins, 4-2, in Big 10 Conference action.

“We didn’t play our best, at all,” EHS coach Jack Crumm said. “We had 7 errors today, which led to the unearned runs and the fact that we lost.

“We didn’t hit the ball well.” Crumm said. “We put the ball in play a lot, but we weren’t able to put together hits. When you struggle in that department, it’s hard to score runs.”

Dalton Boyce picked up the win for the Bees. He went 7 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3 batters.

Read Schumacher surrendered the loss for EHS. In 5 innings of work, he gave up 3 unearned runs on 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 5 batters.

Jeremy Cogar appeared in relief to pitch 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 3 batters.

Luke Swecker, Matthew Gainer and Cogar collected the 3 hits the Tigers generated in the contest.

Nathan Cooper also reached on an error and scored a run.

In junior varsity action, EHS won 9-8 in four innings.

Remington Stanley earned the victory on the mound, while Anthony Jones picked up the save. Joey Satterfield went 1 for 1 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Stanley and Jones both recorded 1 hit and 1 run each.

Elkins (4-4) is scheduled to host Buckhannon-Upshur today at 4:30 p.m. A junior varsity contest will follow.
