TVHS Bulldogs crush Warriors, 12-1

DUNMORE — The Tygarts Valley Bulldogs took a step in the right direction Wednesday, defeating Pocahontas County, 12-1, in varsity baseball action.

“It was good to get back on the winning track,” TVHS coach James Markley said. “Hopefully we can continue it into this weekend. We played a better game all the way around. We do have to take advantage more when runners are in scoring position.”

Charlie New earned the victory on the mound for the Bulldogs. He went 4 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 10 batters and walking 1. Logan George took over in relief. He threw 2 innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out 4 batters.

TVHS collected 10 hits in the contest, with Brett Smith leading the way. Smith finished the contest 3 for 5 with 1 run and 2 RBIs. New and George notched 2 hits each, while Jake Tackett and Richie Simmons scored 2 runs each. Simmons also swiped 3 bases in the game.

The Warriors recorded 4 hits, with Aaron Kershner, Trevor McPeak, Jarret Taylor and Logan Dilley accounting for 1 each. Kershner scored the lone run for PCHS in the second inning.

Senior Christian Smith recorded the loss on the mound, going 1 inning and giving up 6 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks. McPeak and Buzzard both appeared in relief.

Tygarts Valley (5-7) is scheduled to travel to face sectional rival Gilmer County on Friday for a 6 p.m. contest.

Pocahontas County (1-5) is set to travel to Pendleton County today for a 6 p.m. varsity only contest
