Wildcats take 2 from Tucker

FRANKLIN — The Wildcats tossed back-to-back one-hitters, as Pendleton County defeated Tucker County on both ends of a doubleheader.

PCHS won the first game, 11-0, and took the second contest, 15-0.

“We’ve been practicing since February 26 and this was our third game,” PCHS coach Sam Yokum said. “So the key is, we’ve got to be able to do more of what we did today and that’s get out on the baseball diamond. It was really nice, even though it was cold, to get out and be able to play outside. We’ve been inside so much it’s hard to gauge what you’re capable of doing. It’s hard to challenge the kids, especially the pitchers, when you’re inside. So it was absolutely wonderful to get outside and play a little bit.”

In game 1, Kyle Kimble earned the victory on the mound. He struck out 5 batters and gave up 1 hit in 4 innings pitched. Cameron Wamsley shouldered the loss for TCHS, giving up 11 runs on 8 hits in 3 innings of work.

Jared Lambert led the Wildcats’ offense, going 3 for 3 with 4 RBI’s. Cameron Kisamore connected for a 2 run single, while Kole Puffenberger, went 2 for 2 with a triple and 1 RBI, and Tim Thorne, went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

In game 2, Thorne earned the win. In 4 innings, he gave up 1 hit and struck out 5 batters. In that game, Puffenberger went 1 for 3 with a double and 4 RBIs, while Thomas Davis and Kisamore both collected 2 hits and an RBI each.

Senior John Gherman garnered both hits for the Mountain Lions on Thursday, connecting for 1 hit in both games.

Pendleton County (2-1, 2-0 PVC) is set to travel to Cumberland, Md. on Saturday to face Bishop Walsh in a double header. Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Tucker County (0-4) is set to travel to Philip Barbour today for a 5 p.m. contest.
